How Do People See the Supreme Being?
2009-01-20 17:24:35

It is possible that no two people see the Supreme Being the same way. It is possible that there are groups of people who agree as to what the Supreme Being is like. There are those who believe Supreme Being is all around. There are those who believe He is in your heart. There are almost as many names for the Supreme Being as there are religions.

No matter how the Supreme Being is perceived, what characteristics he is given and what the actual role is that he plays in the lives of humans, one thing seems to stand amongst so many of the people - but not all: There is some type of Supreme Being. This Belief runs very strong is so many people today.

There is also a small group that do not acknowledge that there is just one being who is Supreme.

An anonymous Christian writer suggested that perhaps God is not good or bad - purely. That was his key point. He wrote that God cannot be pure good. He reasoned that there are six billion people on the planet and that you would never find two who agree absolutely on everything. Thus one can have the potential for six billion definitions of morality at any given time. And morality is based upon many things, culture, education, upbringing, etc. Thus, he suggests that the goodness of god is tempered by the morality of the person(s) and our cultures that view him. Thus God could not be purely good to fit all the viewpoints.

In an article written by Jim Ashby, he suggests that God is flawed and his creation plan was also flawed. He points out that if we were all born with original sin, then there is a serious problem here, because we must back up to examine that originally, Adam and Eve were created, completely sin free and with no knowledge of right and wrong. Thus how could they have understood that it was ‘wrong' to eat from the tree of knowledge of right and wrong? Thus the idea that we have all be destined to live one life only and that we were born with original sin, just doesn't quite work out after all. There is a flaw to the logic that was granted as God's by the Book of Genesis.

Both viewpoints give interesting food for thought.

Another writer, who may have a Buddhist background suggests that there is a life force and it flows and we flow with it, or against it. But that there is no supreme being giving directions, rules, or regulations. No the "game was put into action" so to speak and now it is our job to traverse the paths and find the inner peace and strength to rise to greater levels of spirituality and to commune with all things spiritual.

The important message in all of the varying points of view regarding a Supreme Being is that people keep talking, keep listening, and keep looking for truths that have sense and wisdom for the seeker.
