For many, the questions of what happens after death is very much a mystery. An area of belief, hope, and often confusion. They have no real point of stability for themselves and often seek knowledge from many different areas to try and gain some idea of what may happen after they die.
One such case in point is an article written by a Wiccan. He spoke of visiting the heavens and hells of various religions in the evenings through his ability to project himself. He realized that they mostly just existed as the realities discussed and put forth by those religions. In other words thoughts had brought them into an astral reality. But these various heavens and hells could be altered by thoughts just as they had been created in the astral world by thoughts.
Another writer, more of a philosopher actually, Cary Cook suggested that perhaps the age old question of who was right, theism or atheism could and possibly should be set aside as maybe no real way to know which one was true. Perhaps people could take a more pragmatic approach to the whole matter, "which is more worth betting on."
Cook suggests that Pascal have us a good start but just did not take his reasoning far enough. Pascal stopped at the God of the New Testament of Christian Faith. That is where he placed his bet.
Cook offers that we place a safe bet on the afterlife that includes some kind of just God who will try to provide just rewards or punishments should not be too bad a bet to place.
For the Buddhists and the Scientologists these questions are very simple. We are all a part of the Life Force, whatever that force is called. We are all tapped into it, and part of it. We will continue infinitely to be a part of this great life force. This life forces is what animates every living thing, even matter itself (don't forget matter is in motion - even if you can't see it) The animation is brought into being by the Life Force.
Thus as your body has completed its life, it will die, and you will separate from it. Then you will come back for a new body. Because the life force itself is eternal. No beginning, no end. For Life and the Life Force there is no such thing as time. The Life Force created time might be a more appropriate concept.
For the Buddhists, it is hoped that they will come back with some lessons learned and a better opportunity to do better in the next life.
The Scientologists are a little more willing to look at the fact that this may not happen so easily. There are a number of factors involved from their perspective.
No matter how it is viewed, one thing is certain. The spiritual beings don't easily remember the lives that comprise their past. For reasons that are often explained best by the spiritual being himself. Thus, the amnesia opens the door to confusions and mysteries. But it also keeps this lifetime interesting.
