Take a closer look at Wiccan Magick.

Magick has been defined by Wiccan standards much differently than what one sees on television or through rumor and history.  It is "The art and science of causing change to occur in conformity with ones will."  It could be more simply stated as   "making desired change happen" or as "energy tending to change."

We currently live in a society which still does not recognize by its majorities that thought is the most powerful thing we have.  Nothing happens without thought.  It majorly goes unnoticed by the majority because it happens so quickly that sometimes a person doesn't notice that he did create a thought which then became an action in the physical universe.  Also, we get so used to deciding to have something happen and then it happens, that we completely lose track of the fact that we decided it. 

A person can win the lottery, or have a car crash, or get sick, or "land a new job" all because of his thought, when then took form in the physical universe through his actions or sometimes inactions. 

When a Wizard or a Witch is learning to use magick, he or she is actually training the mind to become more consciously aware of and in control of his higher factulties like intuition, inspiration and creative imagination.  The Wiccans believe they are drawing on the power of the unconscious mind, however there are other schools of thought that would suggest they are actually drawing upon the power of the spirit.

According to two practitioners in Wales, Magician, David Rancine and his partner, Sorita D'Este  a Wiccan High Priestess, "Magick assumes belief in, or rather experience of, subtle energies. We can only see about one seventieth of the light spectrum, yet what we cannot see still affects us - such as x-rays and ultraviolet light. Similarly, magick is about focusing more subtle, non-physical energies, and directing them to create change."

If one is pursuing the Wiccan religion, they are training to improve the  improve the power of the mind, and specifically, the will. Thus, one could say that they are working to become more powerful as a spiritual being, and tap into the life force and channel it.  Wiccans will use meditation, breath control, voice work, body work, visualization, drama, and ritual, to improve both their bodies and minds. They try to improve their ability to perceive and use the less obvious energy sources of the planet, yet they also recognize the strength of the ability is very closely tied to the strength of their will.

"Some people ask why magick is spelt with a 'k' on the end. This is to distinguish it from magic, associated in the popular mind with illusionism and prestidigitation, stage magic. Magick is not about illusion, it is about creating real change, and the 'k' signifies this. K is the eleventh letter of the alphabet, i.e. the one beyond ten. Symbolically this is very powerful, as we work in base ten, and eleven represents the unseen, or hidden energies - the subtle energies of magick, eleven is considered to be the number of magick." Racine explains.

Thus when a Wiccan is practicing magick, he in truth is working to improve his overall spiritual strength and ability to use the unseen or normally unnoticed energies of the planet and its life force.

It is not at all uncommon from the belief of many of the major, but non-Christian religions.  It is also not at all uncommon for a person who is focused on improving himself spiritually to begin to see that he is the source of all that happens in his life and that he does have the strength and will to create the life and the changes he so desires.

The next time you are walking down the street and you think about how you are goint to be late for your appointment, realize that you are right!  It will happen if you decide it will.
