Often people will look to astrology to help them determine if the relationship they are in or considering could work out well, or poorly. 

Very often, you will find people asking the question of compatibility in their relationships, all the varying relationships, family, friends, work, etc.  The one most frequently asked about however is  if it is even possible to truly be in love with somebody who is not born under a sign compatible to your own.

One of the first things to consider when looking into this is the source of information for your research. Sadly, during the past century the very ancient philosophy of Astrology became popular with newspapers and other media and in so many ways became more of a "parlor discussion."  As can be easily understood, the true practitioners of the art, see this as a degradation of the philosophy. 

True astrologers are deeply learned people.  If ever you have had opportunity to speak to one, you will hear them speak disparagingly of the newspapers sun sign "readings". 

Do not try to get an answer to this question from a local newspaper or website reading. That's really just "parlor astrology."  Much goes into truly determining sign compatibility.  Most newspaper readings take into account only what is happening with one minor aspect of the astrological bodies and the role they play in your life.

A decent astrologer will get much information from you and consult many different facets of the astrological charts.  He or she will do the same for the partner or potential partner.

Here's an example of what could happen if you do not have the correct resources for your answers:  the girl is a Sagittarius and her boyfriend is a Cancer.  Their signs say they are not supposed to get along very well, but they do--why?" 

The answer is simple: the girl and her boyfriend are much more than their sun sign. If they are in a relationship with someone, there will be some type of connection that shows this in their complete charts.

One well-studied astrologer explained this as follows:

  "The truth is that any two signs can get along with each other because 'synastry' (a.k.a. understanding how charts relate to one another) involves comparing and analyzing all of the planets involved in both charts.

"In chart comparisons the Moon represents the home, security, and inner life; Mercury represents communication; Venus represents affection and taste; Mars represents physicality and competition; Jupiter represents philosophy, religion and travel; Saturn represents Karmic responsibility and "time" contracted to spend with one another; "Uranus" represents electricity and instant attraction; Neptune represents psychic attunement; and Pluto represents transformational potential." 

Other points to consider are the ascendant (rising sign), descendant, the Midheaven and the IC of the chart as well as the Moon's nodes and Vertex (a point of fate)."

If there is any one point that becomes clear to the person with the relationship questions, it is to get a properly done reading. Find a well-educated astrologer and get a full chart done. Otherwise, you may find that you could have very possible made a huge and regrettable mistake.
