Description:  Because of the great variety of Buddhist traditions currently practiced, there is some confusion as to the basic principles which Siddatha Gotama (563 BC - 480 BC) himself taught to the order of monks, nuns and laity. This talk presents basic Buddhist concepts derived directly from the canonical discourses (suttas) of the Buddha himself, as translated from the oldest extant Sinahalese manuscripts. We will review the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, annica (impermanence), annata (non-self), silas (moralities), samadhi (concentration), vipassana (insight), dhamma (doctrine) and nibbana (extinction).
